The Start of it All

When I think back to 2018 and the amount of trust thrown my way, I’m in awe.

I’d just moved back to the Mt. Vernon, VA area after two years in Hampton Roads. We are a military family and move every two to three years. The beautiful thing about this move, was we returned to our same home, neighborhood, tribe of friends, that we’d surrounded ourselves with from 2013 to 2016.

Since 2007, I’d been a Stay at Home Mom, eventually to 3 kids, moving every few years and single-parenting through several deployments. As an Active Duty Coastie spouse, we’ve been lucky to live in some great locations, but moving every few years made it challenging to find the right time and method for returning to the workforce. Plus, let’s face it: I told myself repeatedly, “This is my time to figure out my passion! What will I do when I really go back to work “full time??” The question plagued me. I had neighbors reach out to me in the past to help them with their businesses, but what was the next big step?

Enter Fall of 2018. As I settled back into our Mt. Vernon area, I had several friends who’d ventured on their own entrepreneurial journeys and were quickly seeing they need assistance in “the next step.” One friend, an incredible interior designer and tablescape artist, wanted to create her own Website for showcasing her work and providing a virtual store to sell her table creations. She approached me, her analytical and need-something-to-do friend, to see if I’d be interested in helping her get a website up and running. My response was simply, “If you’re willing to be patient with me while I learn, I would love to take on the challenge.” She was, and I did. And that, was the start of my web-designing endeavor.

Around the same time, another fabulously talented interior design and remodeling expert friend said to me, “I really need to get my books under control, and I think you might be good at it.” Again, my response was, “if you can have that sort of faith in me, I am willing to learn and do anything to help you succeed.”

I feel so fortunate that two of my dear friends felt the calling to take a chance on me and provide me with an opportunity to learn new skills, earn some income for my family, and most fulfilling of all, help their businesses grow and succeed. That is trust. That is faith. And that was all I needed to get me going.
